What is NBA Slam Dunk Contest betting?
The Slam Dunk Contest is a yearly event taking place at the All-Star game where players do crazy, athletic dunks and are judged on them by a team of judges.
Each year four participants are selected and odds are set. The odds are mostly heresay and who did a cool dunk in a game as this is not something that we watch people practice or anything like that. The winner is often the most creative as well as the most athletic. It’s not easy to pick a winner, but it is definitely possible.
Odds are set on these using a moneyline basis. For instance the favorite might be +170 while the biggest underdog might be +400. That would mean if you bet +100 on the favorite, you’d win $170. If you bet $100 on the underdog, you’d win $400. The unpredictability of the event makes everyone in it have positive odds.

Common Slam Dunk Contest Questions:
Has there ever been a repeat winner of the Slam Dunk Contest?
There have been five repeat winners and one three-time winner in Slam Dunk Contest history since the event became a part of the All-Star Weekend in 1984. Those players are:
Dominique Wilkins 1985 and 1990
Michael Jordan 1987 and 1988
Harold Miner 1993 and 1995
Jason Richardson 2002 and2003
Nate Robinson 2006, 2009 and 2010
Zach LaVine 2014 and 2015
When did the Slam Dunk Contest begin?
The first Slam Dunk contest took place in the ABA in 1976 during halftime of their All-Star game. The NBA then tried it as a season-long event in 1976 with players dunking during halftime of their games. This idea didn’t go well and only lasted one season.
The NBA then brought the Slam Dunk Contest back in 1984 and it has remained a staple of All-Star Weekend since. That year’s event was won by Larry Nance and the next year was won by Dominique Wilkins.
Slam Dunk Contest Betting Strategy:
One thing I like to avoid when betting dunk contests is really tall players. With just a few exceptions, the winner is almost always a guard or a wing. It is a lot more impressive to see a guard pull off some crazy dunk than it is to see a power forward or center. One only need to look at the 2016 Slam Dunk contest that saw Aaron Gordon (a power forward) pull off some of the greatest dunks in contest history only to lose to Zach LaVine (a guard).
Find a guard or a wing and then look for the outstanding athleticism. That’s what it takes to win this contest. You never see big men win this thing. Get your bets in and then sit back and enjoy the show.
