Where To Bet MLB Player Total Bases

Graeme

Total bases is a stat that doesn’t get enough play in baseball in my opinion. It’s a great stat to see a player’s overall effect on the game and really shows how how great and rounded that player can be. If you want an example of this stat being good, just look at the top-five players ever in the category: Hank Aaron, Stan Musial, Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, and Albert Pujols. Those are five of the best hitters of all-time right there.

Total bases has also become a pretty cool thing to bet on. Instead of betting on hits in a game, it can be a lot more fun to bet on total bases. One hit, one home run, can get you to the over. Or you can see a player get multiple singles to the hit the over. It’s a unique betting market and one that I’ve had a lot of fun betting on.

This article is going to tell you where you can bet on total bases yourself.

What is MLB Player Total Bases? (The Bet)

The definition of total bases from the official MLB website reads:

Total bases refer to the number of bases gained by a batter through his hits. A batter records one total base for a single, two total bases for a double, three total bases for a triple and four total bases for a home run.

Total bases are used to determine a player’s slugging percentage — which is total bases divided by at-bats. A player can only add to his total-bases tally through a hit. Advancing on the basepaths — even via a steal — has no impact on a player’s total bases.

Betting on total bases work much the same. Steals don’t count, walks don’t count, and advancing on the basepaths doesn’t count. It’s only about the hits.

When you bet on total bases it works in one of two ways:

Over/Under: This will see a total set on a player, typically either 0.5 or 1.5, that you then bet over or under on. So a player like Mike Trout will have a total of 1.5 total bases. If you think he has two or more, bet the over. If you think he won’t, bet the under.

At Least: This one works with multiple numbers with each number having a price attached to it. This is how it might work for Mike Trout.

Mike Trout:
2+ (-147)
3+ (+102)
4+ (+189)
5+ (+355)
6+ (+689)

This one is pretty fun because you can bet higher and higher numbers for a better payoff. For a player like Mike Trout or Giancarlo Stanton, it might be worth it to bet 4+ if the match-up is right because that is only one home run.

What is the MLB record for most total bases in a single game?

The all-time record for total bases in a game is held by Shawn Green of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He accomplished the feat on May 23rd, 2002 in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Green batted a perfect 6-for-6 in this game and finished with a four home runs (tying the MLB single game record), a double, and a single.

MLB Player Total Bases Betting Strategy:

There are a lot of ways to go about this one, but with the way that baseball is played now I am not looking for a guy to get 2-3 hits and get me the win here. I am simply looking for players that I know can hit the long ball and get us the win with a single home run. There are just too many 1-for-4, 1-for-3 with a walk type nights in today’s game for me to go too much higher than that.
