The World Series is made up from winners of the two leagues, the American League and the National League. While the American League has been historically dominated by the Yankees, that is no guarantee for the future and betting the American League Pennant Winner is one of the more interesting bets on the floor. This is one of the better sites online for betting MLB and Canadians are lucky to have it. They post a ton of odds on each game including 5-inning lines and totals.
Everywhere Else: A great sportsbook for AL Pennant odds is 888. They post odds early and update them frequently. Game props and futures are abundant here and if you are looking to bet on individual games, they have a great selection of game props and moneyline bets.
What is AL Pennant Winner Betting?
The earlier you get in on this bet – the less data you have, but the better odds you get on the team’s. The more data that is out there, the lower the odds get. A great example would be the 2017 Houston Astros.
The Astros were +650 to win the AL Pennant on March 30th, 2017. On July 10th, they were +200 and they ended up +250 on October 4th. The odds are always changing, but earlier in the season is usually the best odds.

The New York Yankees, of course. At the end of the 2017 season, they had won a total of 40 American League Pennants with their first coming in 1921 and their most recent happening in 2009. The next closest team has less than half of that, the Oakland Athletics with just 15.
Despite the large amount of pennants for New York, the last ten seasons have seen seven different teams win the AL Pennant.
What is the record for most wins by an American League Pennant winner?
The Yankees hold the record for most wins by a pennant-winning team with the 1998 team winning 114 out of 162 games. The best winning percentage of any AL Pennant winner was the 1954 Cleveland Indians who won 111 out of their 154 games. As of 2020, there is only one AL team that has never won an American League Pennant: the Seattle Mariners.

AL Pennant Winners Betting Strategy:
Since the year 2000, only three teams have had less than 94 wins and won the AL Pennant. While the very best team in the league doesn’t always win the pennant, one of the very best teams usually does.
Take a look at the preseason projections and do your best to project how these teams might play in the playoffs. How is their depth? How is their bullpen? Can they pull off a trade at mid-season? These are all things that matter if you are going to be betting early. You can also just wait until mid-season as well.
As we saw above, the Astros were still +250 in October after being the favorite for much of the season and that is a still a very nice profit. Look for a team above 94 wins and go with them. It’s pretty good odds that they are going to do it.
Of course, the best strategy of all might be to bet the Yankees. This team is always spending the most money, they are always in the playoffs, and they have won the pennant more than any other team. Betting them is the smart thing to do based on those numbers. That said, is it the fun thing to do? No way.
