Graeme

Horse racing is one of the most exciting sports to bet on. The races have a unique way of building up anticipation and then it’s over before you know it. There’s a reason that betting on horse racing has been an institution for a century. It is well designed to bet on and an exciting sport to watch.

There was a time when horse racing was a seasonal sport, like football or hockey, but with the internet you can pretty much always find a race at some place in the country and watch it online. Technology has lead to a renewed interest in horse racing for a whole new generation. You can now bet races from all over the world from the comfort of your own home.

Of course, there are plenty of options to bet on horse racing online. Not all of them are good. In this article, we are going to let you know the best places to bet on horse racing. We’ll also get into some of the specific bets that you can place on horse racing and how they work.

Where To Bet Horse Racing Online:

America: Bovada has an entire section of their website dedicated to betting on horse racing. The racebook offers betting on each race as well as horse racing futures.

Everywhere Else: Bet365 Sportsbook is a sportsbook with horse racing and many other great betting options.

How to Bet Horse Racing:

Bovada: When you head to the website, you will see a list of options at the top of the page. This list includes the casino and sportsbook, but you are going to click on “Horses”. This will bring you to a page showing the upcoming races. You can also select by track from the menu at the top of the page. The racebook always you bet Win, Place, Show, Exactas, Trifectas, and Superfectas.

Bet365 Sportsbook: On the left hand side of the page there will be a list of sports. From this list, find “Horse Racing” to see all of the available odds. From there you will be able to place bets and even watch the race itself.

What Horse Racing Bets /Props Are There?

New Player Deposit Bonuses

Win: This is a bet on a first place finish. Anything less and you lose. This typically has the best odds.

Place: The horse must finish first or second for you to win the bet. Slightly reduced odds from a win.

Show: The bet will pay off if your horse finishes in first, second, or third place. Typically lower odds.

Across the board (win/place/show): This is a bet on all three. If your horse finishes first, you win all three bets. If your horse finishes second, you win two of the three.

Win/Place or Place/Show: Same as above, but just betting on a horse finish 1st and 2nd, or 2nd and 3rd.

Daily Double: This is a bet on the winner of two consecutive races. You can also do Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 6, or Pick All. The more correct you pick, the higher the pay-off.

Exacta: This is a bet on which horses will finish 1st and 2nd. A win in this pays off at higher odds.

Trifecta: The same as above, but for picking the top-three finish correctly.

Superfecta: The hardest of them all and the highest pay as well. This is a bet on the top four finishes.

There are a few different ways that you can bet on exactas, trifectas, and superfectas.

Box: This makes you bet all of the combinations of a combination bet. So if you bet the 3-2-4 on a trifecta and boxed it, you would bet on every finish combination possible. So 2-3-4, 4-3-2, 4-2-3, etc.

Key: This is similar to a box, but you are locking in one position. If you bet the 3-2-4 trifecta and “keyed” the 3 horse, then you would only be 3-2-4 or 3-4-2. A key locks them in.

Wheel: A bet on all the horses for one part of the trifecta. Sticking with the example, you could bet 3-2-wheel as a trifecta. This would lock in the 3 and 2, but then give you a separate bet for each horse in the race in third place.

Partial Wheel: Same as above, but with only the horses you choose in that leg of the bet.

Common Horse Racing Questions:

How much does an exacta cost?

An exacta is typically $2 for a bet on two horses.

However, if you were to box the two horses you pick then the bet would multiply to $4 because you are actually making two bets.

Another way to bet an exacta box would be by selecting three horses that you like. For example, let’s say you like the 3, 4, and 6. This would be a $12 bet because you are betting on six different win/place combinations.

The basic bet is always $2, but how many combinations you want to do with it is what decides the ultimate cost.

Where To Watch Horse Racing Online:

A great thing about horse racing is that many sportsbooks provide links to watch or offer “virtual races”. These virtual races take the race as it is called and show you how it is going using animated horses on a track. It is actually a lot of fun and provides a lot of the same drama as watching live.

Horse Racing Betting Strategy:

One thing that I think a lot of people overlook in their betting on horses is the jockey. The experience of the jockey can make all the difference in the world. A young horse without much success could have a rough track record heading in, but putting them with the right jockey can change everything.

It’s important to look into the jockey’s experience as well. If this is their first time on a particular track, that can be just as damaging for the horse.
