Hockey is a game where it seems like scoring is so rare, but it also is a game where teams are rarely shutout. 2-1, 3-2; these aren’t the highest scoring games, but in the games themselves every goal is a cause for major celebration.
A lot of games that I watch I don’t have any rooting interest so I just want to see scoring. Sometimes in that scenario, the best bet to make is on if both teams are going to score. That’s what I am going to get a bit more into today. These bets are a lot of fun because you are just rooting for each team to score. Your rooting interest can change by the minute. You can also bet these for each period of the game.
I’m going to tell you the best place to bet this one as well as how to bet it and my strategy for betting it. Let’s get to it.
Where To Bet NHL Both Teams To Score:
America: Bovada has you covered for betting on both teams to score for each period of every game.
Everywhere Else: Bet365 Sportsbook has a very large selection of betting options for NHL games, including NHL Both Teams to Score for full game and first period.
What is NHL Both Teams To Score betting?
A bet on both teams to score is just yet, a bet whether or not both teams will put points on the board. Basically, you are betting for or against one team finishing the game with a shutout.
You can bet this on the full game, but the odds for YES are often so high that it is not really worth betting. Teams simply don’t get shutout as much as they have in the past so this bet pays well for a NO and pays horribly for a YES.
However, you can also use this bet to bet individual periods. You can bet this YES or NO question on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd period of the game. In this case, the odds are more skewed towards NO being the favorite and YES being the underdog. So a YES bet will typically pay more.
Additionally, there is sometimes a prop (also called Both Teams to Score) where you can bet on the amount of goals scored. An example might look like this:
2 or more goals: Yes (1.83) / No (1.83)
3 or more goals: Yes (4.35) / No (1.21)
What this means is that the game will be at least 2-2 or at least 3-3. As you can see, the second bet pays much higher.
Common NHL Both Teams To Score Questions:
What is the NHL record for most combined goals scored in a game by both teams?
The record for most goals scored in a game is currently held by two games. The first time it happened was on January 10th, 1920 when the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto St. Patricks combined for 21 goals. The Canadiens put up a huge seven goals in the first period and didn’t stop as they eventually won the game 14-7.
The second, more modern record, took place on Decemebr 11th, 1985 when the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks combined for 21 goals. The Great One Wayne Gretzky was held without a goal in the 12-9 win for Edmonton, but he did managed to finish with seven assists. Jari Kurri had a hat trick for the Oilers here as well. An interesting fact about this game is that the Blackhawks actually went scoreless in the first period before adding six goals in the second and three in the third.
The closest any game has got to this record this century took place in 2011 when the Jets and Flyers combined for 17 goals.

NHL Both Teams To Score Betting Strategy:
My rule of thumb with this one is that the answer is almost always YES. Just like that Jim Carrey movie.
The best value for most games is the third period. Statistically, the third period is usually the highest scoring. Plus, you have to think this is when most teams are really going for it and the likelihood of an open goal is often the thing that can get us there.
