The PGA Championship is one of the four majors of the year and one of the biggest golf events on the schedule.
The PGA Championship is held at different locations throughout the US each season and offers not only a huge purse, but a ton of priveleges to it’s winners including five years of membership on the PGA Tour, seven years of membership on the European Tour and automatic invites to the other majors and The Players Championship for the next five year. You also get entry into the PGA Championship for life. This makes it one of the most star studded events on the PGA schedule.
Betting on this event is one of the highlights of the PGA season. This article is going to tell you how to bet on it, where to bet on it and our strategy for winning it. Let’s get into it.
Where To Bet the PGA Championship:
America: Bovada is the best site for golf that I’ve found in the US. They offer a ton of props, outright winners and top 5 finishes among other bets. One thing that I really like about Bovada is just how quickly they put up the odds. For a major like the PGA Championship, odds will be posted weeks ahead of time.
Everywhere Else: Bet365 Sportsbook has a lot of options when it comes to betting on PGA golf, including E/W. Each way, or E/W, bets are one of the best tricks to have in your pocket as a golf better. You can not only bet on your golfer to win, but also still get paid at reduced odds if they finish in the top five, top eight, or top ten.
What is PGA Championship Betting?
The PGA Championship is a major golf tournament and as with all major golf tournaments you can bet on the following:
Outright winner: Definitely the best odds as even extreme favorites in golf are often +650 or higher. That means a $100 bet would pay $650. A great example of a big win would be the 2019 winner, Brooks Koepka. Tiger Woods was an early favorite while Koepka was further down the list. Koepka was +1000 and ended up winning the whole thing. That bet would’ve paid 10 times your bet!
Top Five or Each Way: A lot of sportsbooks allow you to bet “each way” or “E/W” on a winner bet, this will then also pay a lesser value for a top-5 or top-8 finish. The books that don’t offer that offer Top 5 betting odds and sometimes top 10 as well.
A great example of this would be Dustin Johnson, the 2019 PGA Championship runner-up. Dustin Johnson was +900 to win. He didn’t win, but if you bet E/W that would’ve paid around $225 on a $100 bet.
Head to head match-ups: Just like it sounds, two golfers with odds on each of them. You choose one to bet on and whoever has the lower score wins. This can be done for a single round or the entire tournament.
3 Ball: Typically a bet in the first or second round of a tournament. You bet on who will post the lowest score of a three player grouping. The odds will reflect the championship odds, but this can be good when there is an exciting pairing.
Golf props: These can range from anything from “Best European” to “lowest round”. It seems like there are more and more of these each year. The fun thing about these is the golfers seemingly know about them so the race to be the “Best European” can be a very real one from the golfers.
Common PGA Championship Questions:
Who has won the most PGA Championships?
Two men have won five PGA Championships, Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus. The highest among active golfers is Tiger Woods with four who could join the elite company with one more win.
Where is the PGA Championship held?
Unlike The Masters, the PGA Championship moves around quite a bit. The event typically takes place on the east coast of America, but that is not a rule by any means. In history, the state of New York has hosted the PGA Championship thirteen times which is the most. Ohio at 11 and Pennsylvania at 9 are the next closest. Bovada: From the homepage of Bovada, just check out the list of sports at the top of the page and select golf. From there it will take you to the latest odds on the PGA Tour. Bet365 Sportsbook: From the left hand side of the main page just click “Golf” and it will display all of the available betting options for the PGA Championship. This is a major tournament and there are some guys who simply play better than others in them. There is a lot of pressure and recognition that goes with it so I like to look for guys who have done it before. Not necessarily won, but competed down the stretch of a major. I also like to look at guys who are coming in to the tournament in good form so be sure to take a look at the last couple of tournaments to see who is playing well. How To Bet the PGA Championship:
